AFTER having beaten the first and second placed teams in their league in the past three weeks, Altrincham Kersal slumped to their heaviest defeat in this away match at Vale of Lune.

Vale scored first from a catch and drive at a line out close to the Kersal line and followed this with a penalty to put them ahead by eight points.

Altrincham Kersal followed this with an individual score by Ryan Spence, who ran from his own half to touch down under the post and give Paul Edwards an easy conversion and bring his side to within one point of Vale's total.

Two penalties by MacFall for Vale just before half time, however increased the margin to seven points.

Vale of Lune came out in the second half and started to make their game plan work.

It was not elaborate.

They ran hard at their opponent, backed up the ball carrier and laid off the ball to the support player.

Switching direction of play meant that eventually, Kersal ran out of defenders and tries were scored.

Successful tactics, resulting in six converted tries, with Kersal's answer being another cut through the middle by Spence for a try and the conversion by Edwards.

Next week Altrincham Kersal have a break from League and Cup rugby and travel to Trafford NW to play a friendly local derby.
