FLIXTON FC have one aim this season, and that is stability.

The club have gone through a rocky patch over the last three seasons, and currently lie nine points adrift at the bottom of the North West Counties first division.

However, the club have recovered from a recent setback as football secretary Terry Langford resigned due to increasing outside commitments.

He has been replaced by Paul Chadwick, and the club's football chairman Dave Trow is looking forward to a brighter future.

Speaking to SUM sport recently, he said, "The football club has gone through a traumatic period recently. Hopefully we can remedy this over the next five or six games, and pull ourselves out of the league's basement.

"Our ambition this season is to stay in this league, and hopefully make our way back in to the UniBond first, where we used to be."

"The team is being managed by Richard Bibby and Dave Mitten at the moment, and they are looking to bring in players to help us in our attempts to progress," added Dave.

That task begins with Saturday's trip to Atherton LR, as the Valley Roaders try to bounce back from a demoralising 4-1 defeat at Skelmersdale United.

Dave also put out the call for volunteers to come to the club and help out.

"The lack of volunteers may well be at the root of the problem. For now, it is a matter of staying up.

"Next year, we will be reassessing our position, and looking at how far we can progress."
