The Timperley Community Orchard Trafford Drive/Beech Field Allotment site was awarded the Environmental & Conservation Award - Pinnacle PSG Trophy in North West in Bloom 2009, also in addition a Merit Award for RHS Neighbourhood Awards 2009. This is one of eight entries all winning awards, put forward into this year’s entries by Altrincham in Bloom.
The brainchild of Mary Eastwood and Frauke Morton, the Orchard was planted in February 2002 with 45 apple trees and 2 pear trees given by Cheshire Landscape Trust.
As well as modern varieties many of the trees are old Heritage varieties. The orchard is not only for growing fruit, but is also a wonderful resource as a ‘Gene Bank’ and a place to learn about fruit growing. It is maintained by the allotment holders
