A CONCERNED Sale resident said: “Derbyshire Road is unusual. It is 500 metres long, quite wide with no on-street parking. The most remarkable feature for a road in the borough, it is level, virtually straight and well repaired.

“As with the rest of south Manchester, speeding on it is very bad – there is no speed camera that temporarily slows down those drivers, who then speed off into the blue to the next one.

“The speed of some drivers can often be incredible. Speeders can include vans, school buses, mothers dropping off children, commuters, gung ho lads going off for a bit of evening’s ‘entertainment’, off-road motor bikes. About a third of the traffic passes at 45mph.

“A tenth easily does 50mph or more. In the past this has been raised with the authorities concerned. Our borough experts say nothing can be done unless there are two deaths.”
