MARGARET Turnbull, of Whitefield Road, Sale, said: “I don’t know about our roads going to pot, but on Whitefield Road the pavements, or what we can see of them from around 8.30am until 6pm, certainly are.

“This road seems to be used as a car park for nearby office workers and the clinic opposite. Drivers park along both sides, usually two wheels on the road and two on the pavement, blocking access for wheelchairs and for mothers with baby buggies and accompanying children on foot, so necessitating a detour on to the road.

“With the weight of the cars parked all day on the pavements, how long will it be before the level of the pavement comes down to that of the road, and pedestrians and drivers are left to take their chance as to who walks or drives where?”
