CHRIS Bailey called for traffic lights at the junction of Firs Road and Harboro Road in Ashton-on-Mersey.

Chris, who lives on Firs Road, said:“Presently there is a mini roundabout and there have been several road accidents at this busy junction.

“On the approach to the junction there’s a blind corner and some drivers shoot straight across without looking.

Someone could get killed. A lot of HGVs use Harboro Road and pedestrians and smaller vehicles wouldn’t stand a chance if one of those shot out.”

Ian MacKenzie, of Kilvert Drive, Sale complained about the junction of Baltic Road and Atlantic Street, in Broadheath.

He said: “Cars park on both sides of Baltic Road, which is quite narrow up to and beyond the junction with Atlantic Street and for some considerable distance down both sides of Atlantic Street.

“This obscures seriously the view both ways down that road for cars leaving Baltic Road. Drivers have to go into the middle of the road to use the junction and this could lead to a fatality.

“As this area has a high density of heavy vehicles it has become very dangerous as the cars park on the footpath and obscure visibility.”

“Police suggested Trafford Council put double yellow no parking lines at this junction and then anyone parking here can be issued with a penalty notice.”

Kathy Arundale feared the straight stretch of Bankhall Lane in Hale was an accident waiting to happen.

She said: “Because it has a fairly long straight stretch, people think they can race along it. There is a slow sign before the children's playground but it makes no difference. A speed camera along the open stretch might help.”

And Merian Denning pointed out what she felt was a pedestrian black spot.

She said: “Last week my friend and I were jogging out of Hale along Ashley Road approaching the turning for Ryecroft Farm when we were forced to dive in to the adjacent bushes for safety as an on coming car mounted the curb right next to us.

“This particular stretch of road is popular with walkers and runners and we view it as a potential black spot where an accident is certain to happen any day. Traffic approaches at great speed.”

A council spokesman said: “We always investigate any complaints made to us with respect to road safety.

To make the best use of our limited resources, we have to prioritise measures at those locations where there are the most accidents resulting in injury, giving particular attention to locations where the most serious injuries have been reported.

“In order to carry out these investigations, we need more information to identify the precise lengths of Ashley Road and Bank Hall Lane, where the complaints have been received.

“Road traffic accidents in urban areas tend to happen at road junctions and we are aware that there have been a small number of accidents resulting in injuries at the mini roundabout on Harboro Road at its junction with Firs Road. The junction does not currently feature on our list of accident hot spots. However, the junction will be monitored to determine if any additional measures are appropriate.

“Proposals to introduce waiting restrictions at the junction of Atlantic Street and Baltic Road are being progressed.

A number of objections to these proposals have been received which are currently being considered.”
