Another year and Altrincham in Bloom have yet another selection of entries to wow the judges this year and gain awards.

Altrincham in Bloom has been around since 2004 and goes un-noticed for the achievements which have been achieved in the borough.

Voted Best Newcomer in 2004, Runner up for the Best Large Town in 2005 and 2006.

Following less involvement from Trafford Council since 2006, Altrincham in Bloom have continued to claim accolades for the borough independently, with making entries in the Neighbourhood Awards. In 2007 all entries entered won awards, one of these being The Quarry Bank Community Garden Project, winning the prestigious award Outstanding, again an entry for this year is surely to impress the judge, hopefully second time round, these gardens are carefully maintained for the residents of Marsland Road and Clifford Avenue Timperley and are admired by many people visiting Timperley.

Other winners from previous year were Conniston Walk, which for two years won outstanding for 2007 and 2008, a credit to the hard work of all residents and community. Broomwood Woods’s winners for 2007 and 2008 brought together by G-Force, an organisation which has brought the community closer together and has made the woods a reality.

Altrincham in Bloom entered in 2008 with six entries, each were all winners of this award, these being

Broomwood Woods (Merit)

Conniston Walk (Outstanding)

Brookside Nursing Home- Broadheath (Merit)

Woodend Nursing Home - Altricham (Merit)

Lyngarth House - Navigation (Merit)

Brooks Drive (Merit)

This year’s Altrincham in bloom have some old entries and new, the judges are visiting Altrincham the morning of the 10th July and will be visiting the following entries.

Woodend Nursing Home on Bradgate Road for the second year.

Altrincham Heritage Quarter a new entry

Stamford Quarter and visit G Force workshop on George Street, also new entries

Then the judges will be transported, courtesy of G-Force to an Orchard which can be found off Heyes Lane, Timperley courtesy of the Allotments, this again is a new entry and is looking good for recognition. Following this the Judges will visit again the Gardens at Quarry Bank, two years on since their last visit; it’s looking spectacular and is sure to win recognition yet again.

The judges will then be transported via Timperley Village and will past the spectacular troughs which have been planted by the community year on year. The plants supplied free of charge by Brian Crosby for people of Timperley to enjoy. Seeing this they will then visit Larkhill Community Centre, which over the years has seen much involvement from the community and who have added many improvements, making it a place for people to visit and maybe spend the odd hour relaxed in a little oasis within the Village it’s self. Recent additions have seen many carvings, including an Owl, Bears, and even a boat, plus benches created from diseased trees felled on site. The community have recently created a hedgerow, which existed many years ago and has been brought back into the 21st century.

Thereafter the judges will visit Broowood Primary School and see firsthand how the children have been introduced into Garden, the brain child of Mary Eastwood, who has devoted much of her time to the community of Broomwood and especially Brooks Drive. Following this they will enjoy the excellent work that can be seen in Broomwood Park, again a project brought together by G-Force.

After the extensive tour of the borough, the Judges and Entrants will be then meeting at the New G-Force Cafe on the Broomwood, this will give the chance for Judges and Entrants to chat and hopefully impress to make sure that Altrincham in Bloom again wins and puts some of those hidden gems firmly on the map.
