A TEAM of staff from an Altrincham school will take part in this year’s Race for Life event at Tatton Park in recognition that three of their colleagues are currently being treated for breast cancer.
Sixteen members of the school’s teaching and admin staff will pull on the racing boots for the June 7 event.
The all female team, who’ve called themselves the AGSB Breast Mates, are participating in support of three colleagues who’ve all been diagnosed with the illness.
The ladies, who’ll be sporting pink T-shirts emblazoned with the team name, are looking to raise as much money as possible for the charity, which concentrates on combating cancers only affecting women.
On Tuesday the three staff currently receiving treatment for cancer - Mary Farrell, Joanne McClelland and Caroline Shield - visited the school to have their picture taken by Messenger with the Breast Mates team.
Afterwards, headteacher Tim Gartside said: “It was good to see all three of them in today for the photograph, and we’re all looking forward to seeing them back in school when their treatment has finished.
“I’m very pleased to see the support of their colleagues in school, pulling together in their absence, and wish the team all the best for the June 7.”
If you would like to sponsor the team there are two ways to contribute, either on-line at raceforlifesponsorme.org/astridlavin; or by sending a cheque made payable to Race For Life, including the donor’s name and address on the back of the cheque, and which can be handed in at the school’s office.
