A FUNDRAISING night has helped to lighten the load for a little girl from Broadheath.

Five-year-old Lillie Milligan, left, suffers from the lung disease bronchiectasis and has to be linked to an oxygen supply.

That meant Lillie – who also has Down’s Syndrome – was unable to go out to play, as the NHS portable cylinders are too big for her to carry.

But now, thanks to her family and friends, she has taken delivery of a lightweight oxygen concentrator that fits in a backpack – allowing her to play out and resume the dance classes she had to give up.

Her family and friends held a charity disco at Broadheath Central Club which raised the full cost of the £3,000 equipment, which is not available on the NHS.

And her family – mum Barbara, and sisters Becky, 23, Jessica, 21, and Melanie, 18 – say they are hugely grateful to everyone who has helped Lillie, a pupil at Delamere School in Flixton.

Becky, a family support worker from Trafford Council, said: “Lillie is just brilliant, she is so smiley and bubbly.

“Her oxygen backpack will transform her life – before we had to carry the oxygen behind her.

“This will give her mobility and freedom to go out and play in the garden herself, to dance and generally have the same independence as other five-year-olds.”
