Trafford Council crushed a van after it was involved in incidents of fly-tipping on at least four occasions in Carrington.

A camera caught the van in the act of the incidents of fly-tipping in the area of a lay-by on Manchester Road last year.

The council checked with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) for the identity of the registered owner but there was no registered owner on the system.

Instead it tracked the van to Partington where it used its powers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to take the vehicle from Wood Lane on September 1.

Trafford Council crushed the van last month after no one came to claim ownership of it.

Stephen Adshead, executive member for environmental services, said: "Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of blighting our communities by dumping waste. We will use whatever powers we have available to us to stop fly-tipping in our communities.

“If we see it our officers will not stop investigating. You can either dispose of waste properly or you can face a fine of up to £50,000, imprisonment and having your vehicle seized. There is no excuse."
