An Altrincham Grammar School for Boys alumnus is looking forward to the future after he abandoned the corporate world to launch a gym in Hale.

Friends Tom Weyman and Mark Tomlinson launched Aspire Gym on the Crown Passages, between Ashley Road and Cecil Road, on February 10.

Mr Weyman, an Altrincham Grammar School for Boys alumnus, abandoned the corporate world during the coronavirus crisis following a career of 10 to 15 years.

He and Mr Tomlinson, who are both from Wilmslow, Cheshire, went into partnership to launch the gym with a focus on personal training and performance training.

Mr Weyman said: "Luckily we complement each other. I am organised and I like everything to be done by the book whereas he is a bit more relaxed.

"I am handy with the spreadsheets whereas he is handy with a drill and a hammer so we are able to do different things and we complement each other.

"We are right in the centre and we are right in the car park with a lot of parking available and we want to create an environment which is welcoming for people in and around Hale.

"We are on the premium end but we are not over-expensive so people cannot afford it. We are not a budget gym so we are trying to be in the middle."

There is no intention of sticking to one gym as the pair plan to launch two or three gyms as long as the first one on the Crown Passages is profitable.

Memberships start at £75 a month or £750 a year with a reduced rate for students.

Mr Weyman said: "Success looks like enough members to cover the bills then enough members to be profitable. Ideally we would like two or three sites in the end.

"We do not want to be a chain gym, we want to be small enough so both of us are actively involved in all of the gyms, but we do not want to stick to just one gym."

Mr Weyman and Mr Tomlinson launched Aspire Gym on the Crown Passages on February 10 and there is an open day on March 3 between 12pm and 4pm.
