With most people back at work it is inevitable that a colleague will be sent on a coffee run.

And with finances being a little tight this month following the festive period, McCafe at McDonald's is probably the choice for many.

But how do you tell which drink belongs to whom.

Okay you can remove the lid, but they can be fiddly to put back on - and  there is a far easier way as shared by a former fast food restaurant worker.

She has  explained  what the 'buttons' on its drinks lids really mean.

Messenger Newspapers: Coffee

Many won't have noticed the markings as anything other than a fancy look, but they are designed to help customers tell which drink is which - from a hot chocolate to a latte to a white coffee and even promotional drinks!

The meaning was discovered after a group of colleagues in Bolton were trying to figure out which drink was which.

According the former fast food worker, staff push down the buttons while making up the drink indicating which one is which on the tray.

One of her colleagues said: "How have I never known this!"

And the same goes for cold drinks too, indicating which is diet and 'full fat'.

Now next time you have a tray of hot drinks, do not try and memorise which is which, simply look at which button has been pushed!
