A new stall has opened on Bury Market specialising in authentic Dutch pancakes.

Phil Read has made his debut as a trader on Bury Market after years of admiring the world-famous attraction as a regular customer.

The Worsley resident has opened Go Dutch Pancake House and said he has been overwhelmed by the amount of attention and support he received over the weekend.

He said: “I love Bury Market, I always have and I have been nursing the idea of getting a market stall for the last three years.

“I retired in March, I got bored, and I decided that this would be the perfect time to take on the challenge”.

The stall opened around a month ago, however, Phil said he wanted to smooth out any potential problems before going ‘public’.

He said: “We handed out samples and had been getting a public reaction before advertising that we were here to help smooth out any potential problems.

“We have had a great reaction to the pancakes so far and I think they will do well.”

Other market stalls have rallied behind Phil with Harry Muffin staff declaring that they are “Amazing Pancakes! Better than the Christmas Markets and much cheaper.”

Customers have also shared their praise for the food and Phil with one taking to Facebook to say: “Had some last week. Very nice and the owner is a Top Guy!”

Another praised the “attentive staff” and urged future customers to try the “delicious mini pancakes”.

However, after going public on Facebook, Phil said he was not prepared for just how many people wanted to try the sweet treats.

Speaking to the Bury Times on Saturday, he said: “We have been so busy. I didn’t expect this many people to come and see us today.

“At the moment, the equipment is struggling to keep up with the demand so there has been a wait on orders.

“The customers have been very understanding that we are still figuring things out.

“After today, we know we need to make some alterations, but I am happy with the reaction to the product”.

Phil added that he hopes once alterations have been made and new equipment fitted, that they can expand their menu to offer savoury as well as sweet treats.

Go Dutch Pancake House is situated at Bury Market on the Princess Block Stalls 11 and 12, which is the same aisle as Paul Smedley's Fruit & Veg, facing the Georgiana Block.
