PG Tips' "best blend" in its history is to be made at its factory in Trafford Park for the foreseeable following two years of development and £40 million of investment.

Lipton Teas and Infusions, the owner of the brand, spent the substantial sum on a mixture of machinery and training at a site which is celebrating its centenary this year.

The result is PG Tips' "best blend" in its history, which swaps a pyramid teabag for a square teabag, and which takes no more than 60 seconds to brew according to the brand.

Liam McNamara, general manager for UK and Ireland, said: "This PG Tips is the result of a programme by Lipton Teas and Infusions, its owner and the world's leading tea company.

"It is part of its commitment to elevate the black tea drinking experience while driving more shared value for all from plant to cup.

"Our expert tea-blenders have spent two years developing a new and better blend which delivers high quality taste to tea lovers.

"As part of the programme the company has spent £40 million on machinery and training to make the blend at its Trafford Park site in Greater Manchester, which is celebrating its centenary this year, and we are proud PG Tips will continue to be made in Trafford."

Tom Ross, the leader of Trafford Council, said: "Lipton Teas and Infusions invested millions of pounds into its Trafford Park plant and this is great news for the borough.

"Trafford is a fabulous place to invest and we are pleased the company is on board.

"Trafford is home to a variety of world-famous names in business and sport and PG Tips is certainly a brand known throughout the world. Trafford Council is committed to attracting business to the area and we are always supportive of investment into the borough.

"We have a thriving business community with fabulous transport connectivity and a strong and skilled workforce and we are one of the most economically competitive areas in the whole of Greater Manchester."
