The Wilko stores in Altrincham and Sale are set to become Poundland stores with workers prioritised for roles in the saved shops.

The chain collapsed last month with the Wilko stores in Stamford Quarter and Stanley Square respectively set to close as a result.

On September 12, however, the administrator PwC revealed it sold dozens of sites to Pepco Group. They are set to become Poundland stores before the end of the year with workers prioritised for roles in the saved shops.

But their roles are not to be transferred directly, Pepco Group said.

Barry Williams, managing director, said: “In the coming weeks we will work with landlords so we can open these stores as Poundlands with the ranges which have been pivotal to our development. Once the process is complete we will ensure a number of the Wilko team will join our Poundland team.

"We recognise the last few weeks have been difficult for them and we will move to secure consents from landlords so we can offer them the certainty they deserve."

Previously, PwC revealed it sold dozens of sites to B&M.

No sites in this area were affected by this deal at the time.

Edward Williams, joint administrator, said: "Alongside the agreement with B&M we are confident this sale will create a platform for employment opportunities for people including the Wilko team at up to 122 locations.

"We will continue to engage with other retailers around any interest in other sites and we are confident of completing a sale of the brand and intellectual property within the coming days."
