A CONSERVATIVE leaflet campaign calling for potential election candidates has caused concern that the group is struggling to find candidates for the upcoming elections.

But the Conservative Group has tried to reassure locals that everything is in hand for May’s elections at least.

The leaflet, asking people who have a passion for the area they live in to consider standing as a Conservative candidate in upcoming elections, has been circulated online and locally.

The leaflet said: “Could you do a better job of running local services? Then stand up for your local community and the interests of local residents.

“In May 2022, we will all elect councillors to serve their local community and you could be part of our friendly, experienced and supportive team of councillors and campaigners.

“Your local Conservatives are looking for candidates who want to serve Trafford and their local community. We welcome all candidates who care about representing local views and want to look after the interests of their local area.

“If you are interested in getting involved or finding out more about the role, we want to hear from you!”

Owain Sutton, a Green Party member based in Altrincham, said: “Well this is a bit awkward. Trafford Conservatives appear to be struggling to even field a full slate of candidates for May.”

But Cllr Nathan Evans, Trafford’s Conservative Group leader, said the party has a full suit of candidates already selected for the next round of local elections in just two months time.

He said: “Trafford Conservatives have candidates in place for all wards for the 2022 local government elections to Trafford Council. The party however is keen to engage with Trafford residents and attract a broad and diverse range of activists and election candidates.

“Trafford Conservatives are now planning for selecting candidates for the ‘all-out’ elections in Trafford in 2023, when all 63 council seats are up for election.”
