THIS video shows the moment officers arrested a burglar who broke into a house in Brooklands.
Police were called to the house by a neighbour, who heard the alarm after Carl Leather broke into it through a window. The victim, a 72-year-old woman, was not at home at the time.
On arrival, officers watched Leather leap from a window. They tried to Taser the 46-year-old, but he ran into a wooded area at the rear of the house.
After a chase, the burglar was caught as he tried to climb over a fence.
Leather, of Conway Road in Sale, was searched and officers found around £1,000 worth of jewellery stolen from the house, as well as a screwdriver.
The 46-year-old admitted the burglary, which was in January of this year, and he was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison at Manchester Crown Court on February 10.
After the sentence, PC Dan Scanlon, of GMP Trafford, said: "Leather is a greedy individual who thought he could burgle an elderly woman and escape justice by attempting to run away from police.
"I would like to praise the team in their efforts for ensuring that Leather was detained and the jewellery was given back to the victim.
"Burglary is an incredibly invasive crime which can leave victims feeling unsafe and vulnerable in their own homes and is a top priority for Greater Manchester Police.
"I hope today's sentence gives Leather the time he needs to reflect on his actions and the impact they have had."
