ALTRINCHAM and Sale Chamber of Commerce are running a ‘Chamber in the Community’ event at St Ambrose College to teach valuable business lessons to students.

Chamber chair David Bellin will host the event, which is being run in conjunction with Start Up Business Services (SUBS) Altrincham.

Students will be offered practical advice into many do’s and don’ts of business, work experience and apprenticeships and how to make themselves more marketable to employers.

Participating on the evening will be Mike Fox, president of Altrincham & Sale Chamber of Commerce and senior partner of Slater Heelis LLP Commercial Property, to give a presentation on the background of the Chamber and our Chamber in the Community Initiative and how it could help businesses.

Jill Bottomley, managing director of HR Dept (Trafford & Warrington) will talk about HR’s impact on apprentices and what they need to be aware of.

Alex McCann, owner of Altrincham HQ, will discuss the effects of social media with a presentation on “what you put online, stays online - Don’t let stupidity affect your future”.

Joan Scott, director of Adult Learning at Trafford College will explain how colleges are working with employees to provide work experience to students.

Chamber members as well as local businesses are also invited to the event on September 11, from 5.45pm at St Ambrose College.

The cost is £10 per person but students can go free by emailing Anne Jardine anne@altrinchamchamber.co.uk

The Altrincham & Sale Chamber of Commerce was established in 1909 as the Altrincham & District Traders Association. By the late 1990s, it had evolved into the Greater Altrincham Chamber of Commerce, Trade & Industry.

In 1999, it incorporated the Sale Chamber of Commerce & Trade.

In November 2005, the name was simplified to the Altrincham & Sale Chamber of Commerce and it continues to represent the interests of businesses within the South Trafford area.

The Chamber is an independent, non-political business organisation owned and run by its membership who often comment on the close feeling of ‘business family’ within the Chamber.

In 2009, it celebrated its centenary after providing 100 years of service to local businesses.

The vision of the Altrincham and Sale Chamber of Commerce is “to contribute to the sustained economic viability, prosperity and sense of business community of the area in which we operate”.
