A TEACHER from Stretford was among a hundred school staff invited to Downing Street this week to be personally praised for their work by the Prime Minister.

Jean Sang has taught modern foreign languages at Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) near Stockport for 11 years.

The High Performing Teachers' Reception at Downing Street was held to celebrate the outstanding work of teachers and was hosted by Prime Minister Theresa May and Secretary of State for Education Damian Hinds.

Linda Magrath, the chief executive of the Laurus Trust, of which CHHS is the founder school, nominated Jean for the event.

She said: "Jean is a phenomenal example of a dedicated, high-performing teacher. I was delighted to put her forward for this very special evening of recognition hosted by the Prime Minister because she is a superb role model who has the respect of students, parents and colleagues here at Cheadle Hulme High School."

Jean said she was nervous ahead of the No. 10 reception but enjoyed meeting fellow teachers from around the country.

She said: "It was really exciting and we felt very rewarded. There was a sense of history being inside Downing Street and it was lovely to be personally thanked for doing a job I love."

Theresa May told the teachers: "We know that the success of every young person, in whatever they go on to do in life, is shaped by the education they receive at school. That's why I was delighted to welcome over a hundred teachers from across the country to Downing Street to celebrate their achievements and to thank them for the vital work they do."

Education Secretary Damian Hinds added: "Whenever I ask people about what they most remember from school, they always talk about the teacher who inspired them. There are no great schools without great teachers and the reception today is a small recognition of their incredible dedication and hard work we see day in, day out, across the teaching profession."
