A FREE blood pressure check which could help save lives which is being held in Altrincham on Saturday.

Altrincham Rotary Club, which supports the Stroke Awareness Campaign, will be holding the session at the town’s Tesco store from 10am to 4pm, with trained nurses on hand to take the readings and offer advice.

Previous sessions have proved crucial in providing an early warning to some of those attending of the need to see a doctor urgently.

High blood pressure causes more than half of all strokes and more than seven million people across the UK don’t even know that they have the condition.

Rotary president Stephen McHugh said: “Rotary is proud to work with the Stroke Association delivering blood pressure checking events throughout April and the rest of the year.

“Stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK, but with events like these, we hope to change this. A blood pressure test is quick and painless, and it could save your life.”
