TRAFFORD Liberal Democrats have expressed concerns over the roads throughout the borough.

They said that they have received many complaints by residents about the state of the roads throughout Trafford, many with pothole worries and the “council’s inability to keep up with demand for road maintenance requests". They also raised questions about the money raised from the Green Bin Tax and if this will be used to help.

Following this, at a meeting with Trafford full council, Liberal Democrat councillor, Jane Brophy asked about plans to increase the roads maintenance funding due to the complaints, but when they recieved a "glib answer" the Trafford Lib Dem's still have worries over the council's plans.

One resident shared a photo to Messenger of Barra drive in Davyhulme, He said: "There is more holes than tarmac on the streets. I know a hole has to be a certain depth before it is looked at and these may not be reach that requirement but they cover the whole road."

A study by the Federation of Small Businesses, this year, showed that the number of complaints received about potholes in the borough in 2015/16 had increased by more than 1,000 from the previous 12 months.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The number of households who have opted into the green waste collection has been much higher than predicted, it has generated £600,000 over and above the amount forecast in the budget. The council is proposing to spend this additional income on maintaining roads during the current year, in response to issues that have been raised by residents across the borough.

"The council’s draft budget for 2018/19 was presented to the Executive on October 16, and the report is available on our website. This includes proposals to spend over £33m on highways over the three years from 2017 to 2020."
