Wellington School’s students and staff are celebrating a record haul of A-Level results.

A rise in the number of students achieving the very top grades means that 49 per cent of all A-Levels were graded A*-B – the highest proportion in the school’s history. As in previous years, every student from the school who applied to university has gained a place, with the vast majority achieving their first choice.

Headteacher Stuart Beeley said: “Once again we are delighted to have seen so many smiling faces on results day. Our students should be as proud of their wonderful achievements as we are. It is just desserts for their hard work and dedication.

“Collectively, students and staff have worked as a real team and we have also seen some truly wonderful individual performances”

The school has seen many students depart for Russell Group universities. Lilina Butler will be heading off to read Art History at The University of Manchester after bagging three A*s and two A grades and Halina Pecak will read Philosophy at Birmingham after scooping three A*s and an A. Several other students will begin professional apprenticeships in mortgage brokerage, marketing and accountancy after being snapped up by leading local and multinational companies.

Mr Beeley said: “Everyone leaving will always be a part of the Wellington community and we wish our students the very best of luck on the next step of their journey.”
