STRETFORD and Urmston MP Kate Green spoke up in Parliament to demand that government protects funding for Trafford's schools.

Speaking in the Queen’s Speech debate on June 26, Ms Green said that Trafford schools had traditionally been under-funded and that, without additional money, the Government's proposed new funding formula would not help schools to cover their costs.

Trafford schools face a huge real terms budget cut of £14.5 million by 2019, which will mean fewer teaching and support staff to help children's learning, and less money for equipment and educational activities away from school.

Ms Green also warned ministers not to cut special 'deprivation' funding to try to balance the books.

Ms Green said: “Some Tory MPs have been suggesting additional 'deprivation' funding received by schools in some of the poorest areas should be removed. Robbing Peter to pay Paul would be a disaster for schools in my constituency, leaving schools with the most disadvantaged students losing out.

“Ministers must guarantee adequate funding for every school. Tory policies are letting down Trafford children and I will continue to fight for fair funding for all our schools.”
