THE leader of Trafford Labour Party is in the running to become MP for Altrincham and Sale West.
Sale councillor and leader of Trafford Labour Group Cllr Andrew Western will be the Labour candidate for the general election on June 8.
Mr Western has lived in the constituency all his life and in addition to his councillor duties works for a civil engineering consultancy.
He has been a councillor for the Priory Ward in Sale for the past six years and the leader of the opposition on Trafford Council since 2014. Andrew is a school governor in the constituency, and vice president of a local youth charity.
Speaking of his selection, Andrew said: "I'm incredibly proud to be Labour's candidate in Altrincham & Sale West, where I've lived all my life.
“It's become increasingly clear that our incumbent MP's views are massively out of step with the majority of his constituents particularly on the issue of Brexit. I will be taking the fight to the Tories across the constituency and am very much looking forward to the campaign."
