THIS is the shocking moment a driver pushed a marshal along the road on the bonnet of their car after he tried to block them from driving into the path of marathon runners to avoid a diversion.

Video footage has emerged of an incident between a motorist and several marshals at Sunday’s Manchester Marathon.

Dozens of roads in Trafford were closed off to accommodate thousands of runners completing the 26-mile trek, including Urmston Lane and Kingsway, in Stretford.

Other drivers taje advantage of the commotion at the crossroads by sneaking past the cordoned off area

As fellow marshals rush over to the commotion, two drivers can be seen sneaking past the bollards and into the cordoned off area, as the person recording shouts, "You can't do that, you can't do that".

A row breaks out as the driver appears to shout: “We need to go through we need to get home.”

The driver appears to back off and reverse when told that they would have to take another route but then revs up their car and creeps forward again.

Melanie Barber, who posted the video on Facebook, said: “So to anyone who doesn't know what marshals put up with!

“This is the kind of behaviour we as marshals giving up our Sunday have to put up with.

“We do this for free to try and keep those awesome runners safe!

“And to explain what was happening: driver wouldn’t adhere to the fact she wasn’t allowed to drive onto the road as that's where the runners were!

“So she wanted to drive into the runners!”
