BROADHEATH is set for a by-election after ward member Louise Dagnall stepped down.

Cllr Dagnall resigned due to ill health and a new councillor will step into her shoes in May.

Trafford Labour Leader Cllr Andrew Western said: "I'm really saddened that Louise has had to stand down, but her health comes first and I know that she would not have been happy carrying on if she was not able to give 100 per cent to her council duties.

"She has been an excellent advocate for Broadheath Ward and a close colleague on the Labour Group. I will miss her energy and enthusiasm but she leaves with our best wishes for the future."

A Notice of Election will be published at 4pm on Friday March 24 and anyone wishing to stand as a candidate will be accepted between 9.30am and 4pm from Tuesday March 28 until 4pm on Tuesday 4 April at Trafford Town Hall.

Registered voters in Broadheath will be notified of the by-election formally on their poll cards and will be given two papers to vote on May 4.

Those registered to vote do not need to do anything but those not registered to vote are asked to do so by Thursday April 13.

This will enable residents to vote in the GM Mayoral election and Broadheath by-election.

Chief Executive of Trafford Council Theresa Grant said: “Voting for the Mayor of Greater Manchester is really important. The role will direct services that matter to you on a very local level and I encourage as many voters as possible to come out and vote on May 4 for the candidate that represents them the best.

“Likewise, residents living in Broadheath should take the opportunity to vote in the by-election, a local councillor plays a very important role in representing the views of local people.” Appointments for an informal check of papers and to submit nominations can be made by emailing elections.office@trafford.gov.uk.

The last date to register to vote in the GM Mayoral election and the Broadheath by-election is midnight on Thursday April 13 and any postal vote applications will need to be received by 5pm on Tuesday April 18.
