ALTRINCHAM toddler Luke Leggett got a lot more than he bargained for when his parents entered them in to a competition – global fame.

A video showing the two-year-old singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ in Spanish has gone viral.

The 30-second video was posted on Facebook as part of a competition organised by children’s language class provider Lingotot South Manchester.

Lingotot challenged its young students to sing a children’s song in one of the languages they have been learning and four finalists, including Luke and four-year-old Jayden Mistry from Stretford, were chosen for a social media vote.

Tot Luke was crowned winner on January 29 and his cute video has racked up almost 14,000 views.

Lingotot South Manchester, which operates a franchise across Trafford, Stockport, Manchester and Cheshire, is run by owner Ashley Whitehead.

She said: “What started off as simply a big thank you to our customers and supporters with a competition to celebrate our second birthday has completely snowballed into a viral video campaign with international success; which has seen Facebook likes from as far as Australia, India, Thailand, US and Europe.

“It was difficult to choose our finalists from all the video entries from children aged two to 11 years singing in French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, German and Arabic.

“Our final four children have so far have reached an incredible 60,000 people and been viewed 24,000 times. All the children are local and attend Lingotot classes either at school, nursery or our family learning sessions. It’s such a proud moment to see children, who joined us before they could even speak, to gain such recognition and support from the online social media community.

“We love teaching every one of our hundreds of babies, toddlers, pre-school and primary age children each week through songs, rhymes, actions and play. The children are really like sponges when it comes to learning and our competition videos certainly demonstrate how quickly the language is picked up with confidence at such an early age.”

Luke’s prize is a year’s worth of Lingotot lessons.
