BIEBER fever gripped Altrincham last night as pop megastar Justin Bieber dropped in at Silver Blades Ice Rink before heading out for drinks in town.

The Canadian singer took time to shoot a few pucks with Manchester Storm on Tuesday night – and then took the team to the Tavern on the Green for a couple of pints.

The 22-year-old is a keen ice hockey fan, and is known to hook up with local teams while on tour.

Manchester Storm general manager, Neil Russell, explained: “I popped an email off speculatively to his people, knowing that he’s a huge ice hockey fan.

“He likes to find a team to skate with locally while he’s on tour. He’s previously skated with Red Bull Munich.

“I never thought I’d hear back from them, but last Monday from his personal assistant.

“He was down to come to the rink on three separate occasions, but had to cancel three times. Then, we got forty minutes notice last night that he’d left his hotel and would be with us in forty minutes.”

Neil managed to round up the Manchester Storm first team and head down to the rink in time for the singer’s arrival.

“He was with us for one hour. We have 14 North Americans in the team  – a mixture of USA and Canadian players –so they got on really well with Justin.

“He fitted in really well with the team. He’s a very good player.

“Afterwards, he took us out for drinks, which was very generous of him. We went to the Tavern on the Green.”

Neil said the team enjoyed talking about hockey with the singer, who was recently criticized for walking off stage at the Manchester Arena after his requests for the crowd to stop screaming fell on deaf ears.

“We know he’s had a bit of flak recently, but he came across as a very respectful and mannerly person,” added Neil.

“It was a fantastic night and it was cool having him in a Storm jersey.”
