ON November 6, Trafford Council leader Sean Anstee, Cllr Nathan Evans, Salford councillor Chris Clarkson and I will be running the New York marathon in support of a Sale charity, the Alex Hulme Foundation.

Alex was born in Trafford on July 29, 1999 and in March 2011 was diagnosed with B-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. His treatment worked well in the early stages, yet Alex's cancer returned in late June and although he responded well again, he lost his six month battle and sadly passed away in September 2011.

There had been no funding made available into the causes and treatment of Non Hodgkin Lymphoma in children.

Over 80 per cent of children survive the disease but unfortunately Alex wasn't one of them and there is still a long way to go to reach a 100 per cent survival rate.

Alex's Mum and Dad, Nicola and Dave Hulme, set up the Alex Hulme Foundation in October 2011. Donations are used to improve the research into and the treatment of this dreadful disease and thus provide diagnosed children with a better prognosis for the future. One hundred per cent of the money raised will go towards research.

Donating is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.

We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations for this important charity.
