THOUSANDS of young people are taking part in a Cubs100 Takeover Day celebrating 100 years of Cub Scouts in The Wildest Birthday Ever – and Trafford clubs are making the most of the centenary fun.

Adventure awaited Scouts from 7th Sale group as they headed to Alton Towers recently to take part in activities specially put on to help them celebrate their 100th anniversary year.

The Cub Scouts experienced more than 50 rides and attractions at Alton Towers Resort. They loved seeing the swimmers in the Sea Life Centre, chasing their friends with laser guns and enjoying some of the classic rides at the site – plus much more.

Cub leader Simon Allen said: “I enjoy being able to teach young people new outdoor skills, like map reading and firelighting. Being a scout leader gives me many more opportunities to get outdoors too.”

The 8th Flixton Scout Group also embarked on the adventure of a lifetime earlier this month, heading for a jam packed weekend in Cumbria.

As part of the Cubs100 programme, Great Tower activity centre put together an adventure package to help them celebrate. Cubs got to take part in Kayaking on Windermere, rock climbing, high ropes and mountain climbing.

The aim of the weekend was to let Cubs have real adventures and fulfil the Scout Association recommendation that at least 50 percent of their Scouting activities should be held outside their Scout hut.

Alongside that, Cub Scouts helped the activity site celebrate a milestone of its own. Great Tower is in its 80th year and is sharing the momentous occasion with the people who use it most – the young people.

Sally Yarwood who’s Akela at 8th Flixton said:“This was such a fantastic weekend for our Cubs, it’s given them a chance to get away and take part in lots of activities they wouldn’t get chance to do on other camps.

"It’s also got them to join in with Cub pack from other parts of the country – and is great for letting them know they’re part of something bigger. We’ve done lots of activities to celebrate Cubs100 and it’s really important as they take away friendships and real achievements.”
