THE Children’s Adventure Farm Trust have had to make the difficult to decision to postpone a planned 6.5km Welly Walk, due to the effects of the recent poor weather.

The walk, along the new A556 dual carriageway, was due to take place on July 17 but the charity, along with Highways England and lead contractors Costain, have taken the decision after assessing the route.

They say the safety of those taking part is the priority. The recent deluge of rain has affected the terrain, leaving it unsuitable for the event as planned. The walk will now take place on October 30, by which time the contractors will have laid a hard surface along the entire route. This will also have the benefit of making the walk accessible for wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs. The new event falls during Halloween weekend so the Welly Walk will become the Wicked Welly Walk and will have a spooky theme.

All those who have already purchased tickets will be contacted immediately and refunded in full, and the charity very much hopes they will re-book for October’s event. Alistair Laing, from CAFT, said: “It’s always upsetting to have to cancel or postpone an event, but we must prioritise the safety of our supporters. The British weather shows no respect for outdoor events. "We’re looking on the bright side as the new Wicked Welly Walk will be much more inclusive for wheelchair users and young children, and the Halloween theme should make it even more fun. "We’re so sorry to everyone who has already purchased their tickets and we very much hope they’ll be re-booking for October and joining us for this fantastic event.”

The event’s website will soon be updated to enable tickets to be booked for October 30. www.tinyurl.com/A556wellywalk
