A FIRE ripped through 400 tonnes of recycling at a paper mill in Carrington last night– and crews are still on the scene 16 hours later.
Eight fire engines scrambled SAICA paper mill, off Manchester Road, at around 4pm on Thursday June 23.
They found stacks of recycled paper and cardboard on fire and worked through the night to tackle the blaze.

Residents were warned to keep their windows and doors shut due to the intense smoke from the fire and to avoid Manchester Road.

The fire is now under control and firefighters are using thermal imaging camera to check for intense heat in the stacks.
