CONSORTIUM partners GE Power and DF Energy have been recognised for their outstanding health and safety work during the construction of Carrington Power Station.

The team received the National and Joint Council for the Engineering Construction Industry (NJC) award for health and safety in engineering construction.

The award was presented by Richard Ash, Chairman of the NJC’s Safety, Health and Environment Committee. Richard said “What impressed the committee most was the open and honest approach undertaken by all involved and the genuine shared ownership of health, safety and environment (HSE) on site.

"This award recognises excellence in HSE management. It has been clear from the offset that the whole team worked together with a really positive approach to HSE.”

Rainer Lueoend, site manager for GE Power said: “We’re delighted to receive this award from such a respected industry body like the NJC. It’s fantastic that our approach to HSE has been recognised in this way, and it’s made even more special that this is the first time the award has been given in over two years. We commend all our colleagues for their work and dedication in making this award possible.”

Jose Maria Lopez Rodriguez, from DF Energy said “It’s great to be recognised for what was such a successful project. It really was a case of everyone working together – from the management teams to the project teams to the folks on the ground. The award is a great testament to how we all collaborated on site. In our industry you have to aim high to ensure the best HSE practises are realised.”

Once completed, Carrington Power Station will be capable of supplying enough electricity to meet the needs of around one million homes.
