A MUM was asked to leave a Trafford Centre shop because her toddler had a tantrum.

Lindsay Robinson went shopping on Saturday with her 16-month-old daughter Heidi and her friend Paula Mansfield when the drama unfolded.

The trio were in the menswear section of John Lewis when Heidi started crying because her mum had accidentally dropped a rucksack and keyring that she was about to buy.

Lindsay, 36, from Prestwich, told The Messenger a male member of staff approached her and claimed customers had complained about Heidi's tantrum, before asking her to leave.

"I felt embarrassed and it made me feel like a rubbish parent. He actually ushered us towards the door and started walking behind us," said the graphic designer, who specialises in wedding stationery design.

She added: "I had parked the car at the other end of the Trafford Centre and my first thought was 'we're going to have to walk the long way round out in the cold.'

"My friend who was with us doesn't have kids and asked me: 'Is this how you get treated when you're out shopping?"

Lindsay made a formal complaint to John Lewis and got an apology and the promise of a bunch of flowers and a £20 voucher.

"I didn't complain to get anything out of it, but I'm glad the company has reacted in a position way," said Lindsay.

She added: "Maybe the staff member wasn't a parent or was just having a bad day, but I don't believe that another customer complained."

A John Lewis spokesman said: "We are very sorry that Mrs Robinson was upset after visited out shop.

"One of our managers spoke to her on Saturday to sincerely apologise and our head of branch has written to Mrs Robinson to formally apologise again and has also sent her flowers.

"Although our partner didn't escort Mrs Robinson out of the shop, he did ask her to leave in response to other customers' complaints. We're speaking to the partner about what happened and how he could have been more sympathetic to Mrs Robinson and her daughter."
