PROPOSALS to redevelop Carrington have been criticised by an Urmston resident who intends to stand for UKIP in the Trafford Council elections in May.

The plan features up to 900 new homes; up to a million square feet of employment space; a local centre for Carrington; and a new home for Carrington Rugby Club.

Developer HIMOR is working with Trafford Council on the plans and a public drop-in information day was held recently.

But UKIP Stretford and Urmston branch member Andrew Beaumont, who attended the day, said he has serious concerns.

He claims the development will cause traffic congestion as it will only be serviced by the already-busy A6144.

He asserts the necessary infrastructure will not be in place to support the 900 planned homes.

He said: "This is clearly not thought through properly."

But Paul Stanley, a director at HIMOR, refuted his claims: "HIMOR is working with Trafford Council to deliver a new future for Carrington that will provide new homes, thousands of jobs and a thriving community.

"Our consultancy team are working on a comprehensive transport assessment that will identify what local infrastructure improvements are needed as part of the planning application.

"We are also working with Trafford Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to explore improvements that could assist capacity on the road network and address issues regarding congestion.”
