HE was the first crush of pre-teens across the country and made mums swoon with his daring escapades but the Milk Tray man is hanging up his iconic poloneck.

The 80s TV spy is passing on the covet Milk Tray baton and one Timperley teacher feels she has what it takes to fill his shoes.

Sharron Diffley, assistant headteacher at Altrincham College of Arts, has got through to the second round of Cadbury’s search for the new face of Milk Tray.

Cadbury’s new recruit will become the face of the brand in 2016, culminating with a lead role in the next Milk Tray TV advert.

To help her get through to the next round, Timperley resident Sharron enlisted the help of her students, who made a video outlining why she could be the new modern-day hero.

In the video Sharron, who also is a 1st Timperley Cubs scout leader, said: “I would love to be the Milk Tray woman. I want to prove to everyone out there, my wonderful children, my nutty cub pack, my amazing children that I teach and other single mums that you can do absolutely anything that you want to.

“All it takes is the right frame of mind, a bit of courage, self-belief and a lot of determination and you can achieve more than you could ever imagine.

“The Milk Tray man is a part of my childhood. I can remember always having a box of Milk Tray to share on Christmas night with my family and watching the television and invariably, the advert would come on.

“I think the Milk Tray man was probably my first crush – who doesn’t dream of an enigmatic mystery admirer who would go to any lengths for the person that they love – but Milk Tray means more than that.

“It’s a simple, selfless token of kindness; that determination to make someone happy without needing anything in return; a wonderful gesture.”

The new Milk Tray man or lady will be announced early next year.
