THE transformation of the underused Scout hut at Partington Pavilion has officially begun.
Partington Parish Council were recently awarded a £34,736 grant from The Veolia Environmental Trust to turn the semi-derelict building on Moss View Playing Fields into a community hub.
It is anticipated that the facility will become a hub for the youth of Partington and for team sports, boxing and martial arts, as well as a space for parties, clubs and society meetings.
There will also be a community café within the building, and the new space will provide voluntary youth work opportunities.
The building will be reclad and the inside will be upgraded and redecorated. Changing rooms will also be installed, as well as improving access for people with disabilities or limited mobility.
Work on the revamp began on Monday November 23 and it is hoped the project will be completed by spring.
Clerk to the Parish Council Sharon Booth said: “Upgrading the Scout building will benefit numerous community groups who will be able to use the facility for a range of activities and events. We are delighted that work is starting.”
