CLIMATE change is set to dominate headlines around the world – and two Timperley men have used their passion and skills to raise awareness at home.

Amateur film maker Dave Thompson and his songwriter friend Paul (Paolo) Cowburn have created a new ‘Earth Song’ in anticipation the Paris Climate Change Conference 2015 (November 30-December 11).

Paul wrote and recorded ‘Let’s Write a New Chapter’, highlighting the effect of climate change and the impact it will have on future generations.

Armed with the audio, Dave got to work creating a video, using locations such as Red House Farm, Dunham Massey and Salford Quays.

“Paolo asked me to create a video for his song but not to tell him what my storyboard was,” said Dave. “Thankfully he was pleased with the finished video. A bigger surprise for Paul was that I got some children to secretly add backing vocals to his recording.”

Dave filmed and produced the video using small cameras – and even a mobile phone – and recruited more than 15 children from the area to star as extras.

It took over a month to film and edit the video and was all done on a non-existent budget. The video has been uploaded to Youtube and has received more than 1,000 hits.

Dave said: “We are just two down-to-earth guys who care about our planet and our children’s future and their children’s.”

Like Michael Jackson’s socially conscious ‘Earth Song’, ‘Let’s Write a New Chapter’ depicts scenes of pollution and the changing environment.
