CELEBRATE the great outdoors and nature with a fun-filled day of wild activities at Sale Water Park this August Bank Holiday weekend.

Go Wild at Sale Water Park takes place on August 31 from 12noon-3pm and features wild play and storytelling, guided nature walks, a mini farm, crafts and music.

Wildlife experts will lead tree identification and food foraging walks, while a kids nature trail will offer a chance to spot flora and fauna.

The free family fun day includes lots of opportunities for wild play including den building plus bird box and bug hotel making.

Craft activities include willow weaving, tree boggart making and painting. There’s also traditional storytelling, a bouncy castle and a solar powered DJ spinning the tunes!

For animal lovers a mini farm will include alpacas, mini ponies, chickens, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

The event is being run by local environmental charity Red Rose Forest as part of its Heritage Trees project, in partnership with the Conservation Volunteers, Trafford Council and Trafford Partnership.

Launched this summer, Heritage Trees aims to record, celebrate and protect Greater Manchester’s special trees, woodlands, orchards and hedgerows. Red Rose Forest staff will be on hand at the event to explain more about the project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and how to get involved.

Lucy Holland, Heritage Trees engagement officer at Red Rose Forest, said: “Go Wild at Sale Water Park promises to be a fantastic way to end the summer holidays. There’s something for everyone at this really wild event and all are welcome. Be prepared to ‘go wild’ and discover the nature and wildlife that’s right on your doorstep.

“You can also find out more about our Heritage Trees project and how you can get involved. We really want to hear people’s stories and memories of the trees in their area. What’s the tallest tree where you live? What’s the oldest tree? Where are the woodlands you used to play as a child or the lanes where you went blackberry picking? Heritage Trees aims to gather all this information to share it with everyone in Greater Manchester via a new online database. So come prepared to tell us your tree story.”

Sale Water Park is located at Rifle Road, Sale M33 2LX. It now has its own Metrolink stop on the recently opened line which runs from Manchester Piccadilly to the airport.
