NUMEROUS cases of arson, criminal damage and assaults have taken place in south Trafford during the past week, according to police.

Officers have been dealing with a spike in anti-social behaviour among youths that has seen significant damage to Altrincham Golf Course and Blessed Thomas Holford playing fields.

Police are now advising parents to be of their children’s whereabouts during the school holidays.

A spokesman for GMP South Trafford said: “Over the last week, youths have been congregating on or around Altrincham golf course.

“Whilst this is not necessarily a major issue, the youths have also been setting fires throughout the area and leaving large amounts of damage.

"Youths have been taking expensive flag poles, wheelie bins and anything else they could acquire to create these fires.”

They added: “Our officers have been patrolling these areas due to the increased level of anti-social behaviour. “Currently we have moved on groups causing issues from the area, got them to clean their litter, as well as taken one especially inebriated young male back home to his parents.”

Photos taken by GMP officers show large groups of youths congregating on Altrincham Golf Course.

Responding to a reader enquiry on GMP South Trafford’s Facebook page, the spokesman said: “There were numerous cases of arson, criminal damage and assaults taking place.

“Police were doing their best to stop these youths from committing further offences throughout the week.”
