DURING a recent visit to Partington, Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd and his deputy, Jim Battle, witnessed first hand the work being done by community projects in the area.

The tour kicked off with a visit to The Fuse – a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art community centre that’s home to church and voluntary organisation, Redeeming Our Communities (ROC), and a variety of projects including youth schemes supporting disengaged teenagers.

Mr Lloyd said: “There is some excellent work being done here in Partington to support young people and teenagers, some of whom are in danger of losing their way.

"The value of voluntary sector agencies being able to help support these individuals and steer them gently back on track, simply cannot be overstated.

“Having thriving community projects at the heart of the neighbourhood, such as those supported here at The Fuse, helps bring people together for a whole host of activities and events, providing fun, entertainment and help for those in need. Food banks, sports facilities, support for people with disabilities – so much is catered for here and it is wonderful to see.”

The visitors continued their visit to the area, dropping in at Partington housing association, Your Housing Group. Residents and staff spoke to them about their policing priorities and concerns, including the vital regeneration of the area, domestic abuse, and the need for developing education, employment and skills for young people, especially young women.

He said: “It’s essential that we continue to provide resources for young people – entertainment, skills, and education. Early interventions can help prevent wayward teenagers from sliding into a life of crime as they grow older."

Local PCSOs spoke about their engagement activity with residents, and the community panels that Your Housing Group is establishing to help tackle crime and build stronger relations between police and Partington residents.

The day concluded with a visit to Rainbow Café in the Partington Wellbeing Centre, organised by Stretford and Urmston MP Kate Green.
