URMSTON teachers surprised pupils at their prom by staging a choreographed flash mob dance to Uptown Funk.

Year 11 pupils from St Anthony’s Catholic College were taking their seats at Ashton’s Village Hotel last Friday night when the faculty suddenly decided to get funky.

Dozens of teachers busted out their finest moves to the Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars hit, whose video has been viewed more than 800 million times on Youtube.

Design technology teacher, Lisa Adderley, said the rendition was met with ‘cheers and screams’ from the pupils.

"It was an idea that the staff came up with. We wanted to do something that was a bit fun and different," she said.

"We did quite a few after school rehearsals.

"We've been practising for two or three weeks. It went brilliantly and I think we all were relieved when we saw the kids' reaction."

The faculty based their choreography on a version of the dance performed by Michelle Obama.

The first lady recently performed the dance at the White House to mark the anniversary of an initiative to get kids more active.

Lisa added: "It was a great night. The kids were fantastic and they will be greatly missed. They were a brilliant year group."
