FLOWERS adorn the roadside in Altrincham where a young mother and popular member of the community tragically lost her life in a lorry collision.

Natalie Thorpe was walking along Dunham Road when the support arm of a flatbed truck struck her from behind.

The 29-year-old Urmston resident, who worked at Elite Dress Agency in Market Street, suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene.

The clothes shop closed out of respect for Natalie last Friday, and a book of condolences has been set up in her memory.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred shortly before 5.15pm on Thursday, June 4.

The lorry, which was carrying temporary fencing for outdoor events, is understood to have also collided with a traffic light and a second car during the incident.

The incident occurred close to the junction with High Street, opposite the Dunham Road Unitarian Chapel.

Constable Paul Joynson from the serious collision investigation unit said: “This is clearly a tragic incident in which a woman has lost her life and we have specialist officers providing support to her family following this deeply distressing incident.

“We would like to offer them our deepest condolences at this terribly sad time.

“We are working hard to establish exactly how this awful accident came about, but we would like anyone who was nearby at the time to contact the serious collision investigation unit.”

Dozens of flowers have been left in memory of Natalie.

A heartfelt tribute from Altrincham Market and Market House read: “Natalie, we have all been affected by the tragedy that took you from our community. Our thoughts are with your family and friends at this terrible time.”
