A FORMER Royal Marine is leading a team of staff and regulars from The Old Roebuck in Altrincham on a gruelling 24 hour charity challenge.

Mike Toolan and the 10 strong group will tackle the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in a bid to raise cash for the charity Go Commando.

The party will climb Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon in support of an organisation that helps injured Royal Marines.

Mike, 45, who lives in Altrincham, said the party includes three ex-servicemen, including himself and he said it's a very worthy cause.

He said: "They look after the guys who are injured and their families. It's money towards the rehabilitation and the medical bills and anything they need, basically. It's a cause that's close to my heart."

Mike and the rest of the group has been training since Christmas and their training programme has already seen them tackle Snowdon and Scafell in the same day.

Mike and the team would like to thank Stamford Van Hire in Altrincham who have donated a minibus and the Citroen garage in Salee which has donated around £200 worth of diesel towards the challenge.

This challenge isn't for the faint hearted - Scafell Pike stands at 3,209 feet, Ben Nevis is 4,409 ft and Snowdon is 3,560 ft tall.

The work of Go Commando includes supporting bereaved families to providing outdoor play facilities for the children of Royal Marines.
