POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in Old Trafford.

It happened at about 6pm at the Cornbrook Metrolink Station in Old Trafford on March 24.

A 28-year-old man and his wife, 26, were in their silver BMW when two men demanded cash and jewellery.

The two offenders fled empty-handed, but not before one of the offenders made a gun gesture with his hand.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Police have arrested a 23-year-old man and the 26-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and bailed them until May 27 pending further inquiries.

Police Constable Andrew Taylor said: "We have arrested two men in connection with this investigation, but we are continuing with our inquiries to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to this attempted robbery.

"I would therefore appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.

"If you witnessed what happened, or perhaps saw the silver BMW parked at the station at about the time of the attempted robbery, then I would urge you to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
