‘DEVO Manc’ moved a step closer after Trafford Council and Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group endorsed a memorandum of understanding regarding devolved healthcare.

The agreement creates a framework for the delegation and ultimate devolution of health and social care responsibilities from central Government to Greater Manchester.

The memorandum is seen as an important milestone in the development of a Greater Manchester wide collaborative partnership for health and social care.

It also has the backing of all the NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts operating within Trafford and the North West Ambulance Service.

The next step will see a Road Map being developed, setting out what is required from all partners to progress to full devolution of NHS England powers and funding to Greater Manchester by April 2016.

Under the devolution proposals, there would be no changes to the legal responsibilities or accountability of any local authority of CCG.

All health and social care services would remain part of the NHS or councils are they current are.
