THE mother of Timperley soldier who was found dead at home said she is ‘overwhelmed’ by the amount of donations and tributes to her son.

More than £9,500 has been generated by a fundraising page set up in memory of Private Bradley Paul, who suffered life-changing injuries during a 2012 tour of Afghanistan.

gofundme.com/bradpaul was set up to raise funds for for the 23-year-old’s funeral and Combat Stress – a mental health charity for veterans.

Mum, Sam, said: “I'm overwhelmed by all the donations and messages on this page, thank you so much every one of you on behalf of Brad's family.

“I know Brad will be smiling down on you all to see how loved he is. Thank you again and much love to you all.”

Bradley, a private with First Batallion the Mercian Regiment, was struck by an improvised explosive devise while acting as point man during a patrol in Afghanistan in November 2012.

Bradley’s officer commanding said the popular 23-year-old began to suffer in silence with a battle against depression after suffering life-changing injuries.

His body was found by paramedics attending an address in Brentwood Avenue, Timperley, on Tuesday, February 17.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Lieutenant Colonel Mark Ellwood MBE, Commanding Officer 1 MERCIAN, described Bradley as a ‘selfless and courageous soldier who instinctively put the needs of others before his own’.

He added: “He made a lasting impression on all those that knew him, and he will always be remembered for his larger-than-life character and his wicked sense of humour.

“Perhaps, most importantly, he is remembered for the huge personal sacrifice he made in the service of his country when serving in Afghanistan in 2012.

“Though he suffered life-changing injuries, he demonstrated immense courage, resolve and strength of character throughout his long recovery.”
