A HUMAN rights campaigner has been in Trafford to speak with students in Altrincham and Stretford.

Stuart Milk, the nephew of his more famous late uncle Harvey, also met with the leader of Trafford Council Sean Anstee.

Mr Milk, a global campaigner for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, who is co-founder of the Harvey Milk Foundation, gave a talk in Trafford to students at Altrincham College of Arts and at Stretford Grammar School.

His uncle was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in San Francisco. While in office he passed a number of city ordinances to give greater equality to gay people. He was assassinated, aged 48, in 1978. Actor Sean Penn won an Oscar for playing the part of Harvey Milk in 2009.

In 2009, Stuart Milk received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama on behalf of his late uncle.

After visiting Trafford, Mr Milk also visited other parts of the region including Manchester.
