AN elderly woman who was left with life threatening injuries when her mobility scooter collided with a car in Sale has died.

78-year-old Joyce Plested passed away this morning at Salford Royal Hospital after falling into a coma.

Paying tribute to the Chapel Walks resident, her son, Nigel Plested, said: “Unfortunately our mother lost her battle for life this morning, due to the head injuries sustained as a result of the impact.

“She died in the ICU at Salford Royal Hospital, where she was admitted with a traumatic brain injury following the collision, and where she had been receiving treatment since the incident.

“She had battled for a number of days to firstly regain consciousness and then remain conscious, but the injuries to her head and brain eventually proved too severe.

“She slipped into a coma on Thursday and never re awakened.

“She was a local resident to the Sainsbury’s store, and her visits were a daily occurrence, with it forming a part of her daily routine.”

Joyce, widowed three years ago, had lived in Sale for more than 40 years.

She leaves behind four children.

Nigel added: “She loved her many friends and neighbours, who were invaluable to her.

“She was very independent, in both mind and spirit, with an appetite for life and a social life that was second to none. She will obviously be missed.”

Police were called to Sainsbury’s car park off Curzon Road following reports of a collision between an Audi 80 and mobility scooter at 1.25pm on Thursday, January 15.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or anything relevant shortly beforehand to contact them.
