MORE than a thousand people helped light up Altrincham during the annual lantern parade.
The festive tradition saw a musical entourage make their way through town before the Christmas lights were officially switched on for 2014.
Children flocked to lantern making workshops in the Stamford Quarter before helping light the night sky with their creations as the sun went down.
Captain Christmas and his Merry Band lead the parade through the town alongside children from St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School.
The evening’s entertainment kicked off in Stamford Square with a packed programme of special guests compared by DJ Ditchy.
Cardwell’s Dance School, Trafford Music Service Jazz Collective, Broomwood Street Dance Troupe, Heyes Lane School Choir and a drill from Altrincham Sea Cadets all kept the crowds entertained.
Generous kids kept the presents coming at a Santa’s Grotto. The Rotary organised event saw toys donated for this year’s Salvation Army Appeal in return for an audience with Father Christmas.
Altrincham’s Great British Christmas Market operated throughout the day, with live music, hot food and unique Christmas gift ideas.
